The Middle Georgia Concert Band was organized in the fall of 1992 to
provide opportunities for amateur musicians with high school or college
music backgrounds, to continue participating in music performance,
rehearsals and fellowship with other musicians. The group was founded by
trombonist and music educator Norman (Rocky) Short and numerous charter
members who continue to perform with the group.
The group performs six to ten concerts and other public performances during
the year. Band membership normally varies from 45 to 50; some are music
professionals but most are from other professions such as law, medicine,
education, and military. The music covers a spectrum of marches, country,
pop, and classical pieces. Membership is open to the public and anyone
with a background in band music is encouraged to join.
Beginning August 23, rehearsals will be every Monday night from 7:00 to
9:00 PM. Rehearsals are held at Tattnall Square Academy located at 111 Trojan Trl, Macon, GA.
For information concerning membership, arranging for a concert or becoming
a band patron and sponsor, contact the Band President, Dr. Alice House, or the Band Director, Mrs. Nancy Rector .
